Summary

For recent graduates of a Master’s program in counseling, social work, and/or marriage and family therapy.

This model support new clinicians in the transition to outpatient mental health. The focus at the beginning of the externship is more on training and supervision, as the year progresses externs see more clients and have fewer training hours. Throughout the year, externs have 110 training hours.

1. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • provide outpatient mental health therapy, 

  • attend the clinic-wide weekly consultation group (currently scheduled Wednesday 12:15-1:45 pm), 

  • attend the weekly consultation group for unlicensed therapists, 

  • choose and attend at least one internal consult group per month (couples, kid consult, IFS, etc.), 

  • attend all internal training offered by The Family Development Center, 

  • complete approximately 80 hours of training in year one, 

  • attend weekly supervision (two hours of dyad supervision or one hour of individual supervision), 

  • represent The Family Development Center at community events and training throughout the year, 

  • adhere to the ethical standards of the Minnesota Board of Marriage & Family Therapy, Board of Social Work and Board of Behavioral Health,

  • during the period of client ramp-up, provide administrative support to the clinic as requested. 

2. This position is expected to work approximately 40 hours per week, 50% of which should be worked at The Family Development Center. Of those hours: 

  • A minimum of 34 slots per week (see table below) in your schedule, 

  • The remaining hours would be for administrative responsibilities including documentation, billing, scheduling, and general client management associated with client care for your outpatient clients. 

  • Up to 50% may be worked from home,

  • A minimum of three evening hours (5:00 p.m. or later) -or- weekend hours will be offered to clients. 

3. Your compensation will include your annual salary and a $500.00 training stipend.

4. In addition to the cash compensation, your total compensation package ($65,003.30 value) will include: 

  • 2 weeks of Base Paid-time-off (pro-rated annually) 

  • 6 Floating Holidays (pro-rated annually) 

  • 2 Sick days (pro-rated annually) 

  • Medical and Dental benefits for eligible employees (at least 85% FTE) 

  • Up to a 3% company match on a Simple IRA contribution 

  • Weekly Supervision

  • Access to comprehensive training materials 

  • Company payment of the 2% MN Care tax on your behalf 

  • Access to an Electronic Health Record, office space and supplies including marketing materials o Access to administrative support around billing and documentation 

  • Access to in-house training and clinical expertise from our outpatient staff
