About our clinic

The Family Development Center is an outpatient mental health clinic and teaching clinic. We are committed to working with clients using a relational, contextual and culturally competent framework. Our specialty is providing therapy to individuals and families that are experiencing difficulties surrounding pregnancy, birth, perinatal mood disorders, infertility, pregnancy loss, infant death and the transition to parenthood.  However, we see clients throughout the lifespan that are experiencing a myriad of issues and concerns.

Commitment

  • To provide mental health care to individuals and families along the lifespan, particularly the reproductive years.

  • To recruit and train culturally sensitive therapists and therapists of color.

  • To reduce disparities in mental health care through accessible, effective and holistic programming.

  • Partner with existing organizations that share our values

Vision

The Family Development Center is a mental health outpatient clinic that specializes in perinatal mood disorders and reproductive trauma, such as traumatic birth, infertility, pregnancy loss, and infant death. We are also a teaching clinic that focuses on recruiting and training culturally sensitive therapists and therapists of color. We are committed to providing a safe space for all individuals and families. We want our clinic to reflect inclusion, cultural sensitivity, compassion, and competence in all areas of the work we do. The Family Development Center is engaged at the community level as well as serving individuals in their homes and in the clinic. We are committed to social justice and participate with other community organizations to address the racial and socioeconomic inequities in mental health care.
