Mental Health Practitioner
Erin Mellenthin, MA
SHE / HER
Finding a therapist and starting therapy can be overwhelming, especially when you hope to find the right fit. It takes courage to reach out for support, and I deeply respect you for engaging in this journey.
There are many reasons a client may come to see me, including people that are addressing relational concerns (romantic, friendship, and familial), navigating anxiety and/or depression, managing life transitions, developing a better understanding of their identities and who they are, identifying and attending to the impact of living with a neurodiverse mind (this may include understanding the impact of an ADHD or ASD diagnosis), navigating stressful job or life events, and gaining insight into their needs and emotions.
I hope to help you become grounded in your physical body, encourage insight, collaborate on goals, and support you in making meaning of your lived experiences.
As a therapist, I strive to create a space where you can safely be authentic. I will meet you with empathy, insight, curiosity, and a balance of inquiry and support. I am an active and curious therapist who blends that style with grounding and understanding. I use multiple modalities in treatment while remaining rooted in a collaborative approach. The theoretical models that inform my work most often include Emotionally Focused Therapy, Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems (parts work), and Polyvagal/Somatic theory. I use all of these models while holding a relational lens.
I believe that our individual nervous systems and bodies, our family of origin, and the society we live in are integral parts of understanding how we become who we are. I am committed to the process of learning and unlearning oppressive and dominant cultural narratives in the most empathetic and supportive ways.
I work with individuals and couples through in-person or virtual sessions. I see clients ages 14 through adulthood.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent ten years working in sustainable agriculture and environmental education. When I am not at the office, I might be playing fetch with my cattle dog, going on a long walk or hike, hanging in a hammock outside with a book, making music, or daydreaming of starting a garden again.
