Licensed Independent Clinical Social Work
Manuela Gonzalez, MSW LICSW
SHE / HER / ELLA
I am a bilingual, bicultural, second-generation Chicana with over ten years of experience working with diverse individuals, families, and communities in the mental health field. I provide individual therapy to adults and family therapy to adult children and their parents/adult relatives. I focus my practice on Black, Indigenous & People of Color (BIPOC) with a particular interest in working with children of immigrants, immigrants, and members of the fat and LGBTQ+ communities. As a cis woman, I am committed to making every effort to create a safe therapeutic space for this community, especially Queer & Trans Black, Indigenous & People of Color (QTBIPOC).
I am trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), and motivational interviewing, and am currently in the process of completing Adaptive Internal Relational (AIR) Network therapy training. In my years as a social worker, I have developed a specialty in complex trauma, primarily domestic and sexual violence/abuse. I take a relational, person-centered, and systems approach to allow each person to be seen within the context of their individual, family, community, and cultural systems and I integrate a wide range of therapeutic approaches, including strengths-based, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, feminist multicultural perspective, mindfulness, harm reduction, self-compassion, and psycho-education.
A trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship is very important, and for that reason, I strive to create an environment that is judgment-free, respectful, and understanding.
Specialty areas: trauma (personal, intergenerational, systemic, community violence, domestic/IPV, and sexual violence/abuse), migration/immigration, anxiety, racial/ethnic identity, acculturation, fat acceptance/positivity, new life phases, interpersonal relationship difficulties
